Storage and Shelf Life
Harrison's Bird Foods are free from artificial preservatives, so proper storage is essential to maintain freshness. Follow these tips:
- Squeeze out excess air from the bag and securely close the zip lock.
- If the zip lock is damaged, fold the bag’s top several times and secure it with a clip.
- Always store the food in its original packaging. Avoid transferring it to alternative containers or plastic bags.
- Use the food within eight weeks of opening.
- Only purchase Harrison's in its original, sealed packaging.
- For extended freshness, refrigerate or freeze the food after opening.
Transitioning to Harrison's
- Consult an avian veterinarian before switching your bird’s diet and schedule annual checkups to ensure their health.
- Gradually introduce Harrison's by mixing it with your bird's current food to assess acceptance.
- Transition over four weeks by increasing Harrison's by 25% each week while reducing the previous food by the same amount until fully replaced.
- To encourage your bird to try Harrison's, scatter the nuggets on a sheet of white paper or a mirror placed on the enclosure floor.
Daily Feeding Guidelines
- Offer fresh food every day.
- Serve meals in distinct portions to minimize waste.
- While birds can free-feed, use the provided feeding table as a guideline for quantity.
Supplements and Other Foods
To ensure a balanced diet, your bird’s daily intake should include:
- 75-80% Harrison's Bird Foods.
- 15-20% organic, dark green leafy vegetables and/or dark yellow fruits and vegetables such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, winter squash, broccoli, parsley, spinach, mango, or papaya.
- Avoid offering other formulated diets, as they may diminish the benefits of Harrison's.
- Do not provide additional vitamins or supplements unless specifically directed by an avian veterinarian.
Note: Harrison's Bird Foods are minimally processed, so natural variations in color, texture, and nugget size are to be expected and are completely normal.
